What my lovely private student of 8 plus years says about private yoga sessions:
“I’m not sure where I would be today without Doreen Stelton. She has helped me body, mind, and soul. I feel so fortunate that I have the opportunity to take private yoga classes with her. I have a lot of back pain from my scoliosis and she provides adjustments and tailors our sessions to my specific needs. Although I have taken yoga classes in a variety of settings: studio, gym, outdoors, etc – I have a hard time focusing on breathing and setting intentions with other people around. It always seemed like a difficult awakening after shavasana to get in my car and have to deal with traffic. After a private shavasana, I can just relax on my couch. And the best part is that my cats can be a part of our yoga as well :)”
What the yogis say: "Your classes make me feel alive" "I feel muscles I haven't felt in years or didn't even know I had!" "Doreen gives instructions in clear and helpful ways."
My Teaching Style:
Teaching yoga since 2007, my style is an eclectic mix. The focus is always what the student needs physically, emotionally, or spiritually. I watch and connect with my students allowing intuition and creativity to guide and shape the course of each yoga session to my students benefit. Seeking to help my students find an expression of the poses that are comfortable, safe, and joyful as opposed to perfect looking, I emphasize breath, alignment, and breath-linked cuing. I am always checking in with my students and giving hands-on assists or demonstrating when possible. Laughter is encouraged!
My yoga certification under Shiva Rea‘s graceful guidance focused on the movement and flow of energy with deep connection to the spiritual aspects of yoga. I am also influenced by the strengthening and personal evolution philosophy found in Ana Forrest’s yoga school of modern sensibility, which I studied extensively under senior Forrest yoga teachers, Talya Ring and Steve Emmerman. After training in aerial fabric (silks or tissue) at Aloft in Chicago, aerial yoga became a natural extension. Mentors here include Tracy Von Kaenal, Brent Holten, and Air.
Related Practices: Zen Meditation, Psychic Meditation, Faerie Faith, Pranayama, and Energy Healing. These experiences and elements merge to create classes that are a themed journey, delving into the body, mind, and psyche. I emphasize breathing, alignment, and breath-linked cuing. I am always checking in with my students and giving hands-on assists or demonstrating when possible. Laughter is encouraged!
