Plan your escape NOW – Run away with me!

January 17-27, 2017

Peaceful, turquoise waters and island ports with sunshine, beauty, and seafood in abundance await you in Mexico’s Caribbean paradise.  And January is the perfect time of year, daytime temps in the 70’s or 80’s, evenings might require a light sweater.  The water is usually ideal.

So escape the cold and the madness of the world on a MexiMayan Travel adventure to discover Mexico’s flora and fauna. Explore jungle paths with exotic birds and plants, snorkel the reefs, or scuba dive with gentle rays and turtles. Anyone for kayaking or canoeing? Golf? Let us know!

Our itinerary will also include experiencing  the art and mystery of the ancient Mayan civilization with visits to several ruins and a trip to the architecturally stunning museum of Cancun.

I’ll be on hand to help arrange for optionals, offer meditations and gentle yoga type stuff, and generally see to your wellbeing.  The group will be a small manageable size.

Happy Summer Solstice Meditation

IMG_8246.JPG
Magnolia

Can you feel it?  The pulsation of energy and expansion.  Summer is a time of unfurling and ripening, an outward – yang season.   A genial time for delighting in the company of others and for self-expression.

IMG_8286.jpg

IMG_8300
unicorn mug!

To connect with this genial and expansive energy, find some time to honor your connection with the sun and the start of summer.  Be quietly with yourself and wildly with others.  Or wildly with yourself and quietly with others!

Summer Solstice has become quite the holiday, as in days of yore, so most of us are aware it is the official kick-off of summer.  It’s also a day when the veil between the faerie and mortal world is thin and contact can be made.  Hence for me, reading the faerie cards is a must…

IMG_8290.JPG

I also like to leave gifts for the fae;  nuts, cheese, honey, whiskey…  They flutter about and absorb the essences.

IMG_8261

Meditation and Faerie journeys are wonderful to get into the faerie summer spirit.

Here’s a faerie journey/meditation…

To start, you may like to use scent and aromas.  Jasmine is a beautiful transportive scent.  I’ll be using my DuskBlossom Perfume.

IMG_6496
DuskBlossom Eau de Parfum can be found here.

And I’ve been playing with essential oil of Mugwort lately.  Honestly, it does not smell so yummy, but is reportedly great for accessing the faerie and astral worlds.  You may use these by applying to wrists and hands or temples.  If you are pregnant you should avoid Mugwort.

(MUGWORT SHOULD NOT BE USED BY PREGNANT WOMEN!)

Next, take a moment to center yourself and breathe deeply.  Close your eyes.  Feel yourself connected to the earth and simply feel your body from within.  Try not to judge, just let yourself be and observe.

In your mind’s eye, picture yourself in a sunny meadow filled with flowers.  The sun is high in the sky.  As you are enjoying the warmth of the sun you see at the edge of the meadow a white deer, stag, or unicorn.

IMG_2273

Slowly approach it and see if it is friendly towards you.  Perhaps it will let you gently stroke it’s neck.  Perhaps it will let you climb up on it’s back.

If it does not seem like a good choice to climb up.  Just enjoy your visit, thank the creature, and go back to your meadow and sit and feel the effects of the visit.

If you are able to do be on the back of the creature.  Let it take you for a ride.  Observe what you see and feel.

When the ride is complete, go back to your flowery meadow.

IMG_8306

Contemplate what was revealed to you.

Here’s where we use the sun.  Allow the bright brilliant light of the sun to illuminate anything you felt, saw, or thought.  You do not even need to understand intellectually.  Just let it be filled with sunlight.

Enjoy this sensation.

When you feel complete, stretch and yawn, allow yourself to awaken, refreshed and energized by the sun.

Finally, pet your dog, even though she has barked throughout your meditation and stepped all over your faerie card spread.

Happy Summer!  Blessed Solstice!

Bright Beltane Greetings!

Today, on Beltane, I send you wishes for virility, fertility, and joy in the pulse of spring and life. May all your seeds blossom and find glorious expression on this verdant earth!

IMG_7211.JPG

Happy May Day!

Rise and put on your foliage, and be seen
To come forth, like the spring-time, fresh and green,
And sweet as Flora.  Take no care
For jewels for your gown or hair :
Fear not ; the leaves will strew
Gems in abundance upon you
~Robert Herrick, “Corinna’s Going A-Maying”

Today, on Beltane, I send you wishes for virility, fertility, and joy in the pulse of spring and life.  May all your seeds blossom and find glorious expression on this verdant earth!

Beltane or Celtic May Day begins at moonrise on May eve.  Bonfires were lit, and hand-fastings (pagan marriages) were traditionally made.  Fertility was celebrated by dancing round the Maypole, a phallus symbol representing the male God.  The colorful  ribbons and flowers on the Maypole symbolize the Goddess.  Hence the Maypole dance is a sensual celebration of the union of Goddess and God.  Parties could get pretty wild.

It is also a time when Fae presence is near to mortals.  Falling asleep under a Hawthorn on May eve will result in  the faeries whisking you away.  I should like to try this!  Robin Goodfellow is often associated with May Day.  Half man and half goat he was noted for his mischievous pranks AND the seduction of mortal maidens.

IMG_7214
Would you party with this man?
IMG_2800
He looks pretty safe…

Green is the color of spring, fertility, and healing. Here is a little magic, earth-centered meditation you can do:

If you have an inspiring natural scent, put some on!  I like the verdant faerie perfume DuskBlossom for this meditation.

Sit or lie quietly.  Take some deep breaths and check in with your physical body and note how it feels.  Just observe.  Then take a few more deep breaths and allow any tension to dissolve.

If you are not out in nature imagine in your mind’s eye, that you are in a beautiful meadow.  Feel the pulse of the earth, hear the birds singing, note lovely, earthy smells.

Then let your breathing slow.  As you inhale imagine/feel the verdant energy of the earth and breath in its green energy and color.  As you exhale, breathe out gold.  You are an alchemist!  Take several more breaths like this.  Then move on and imagine green energy absorbing into every cell in your body and the bubble of space around you, your aura.  Again, as you exhale, gold emits from every cell and your aura.

Linger like this as long as you please.  When you are finished, thank the earth and open yours eyes.  Stretch.

Tonight I’ll wear some DuskBlossom and do a Beltane card reading…

Smelling the Coffee; Generosity of Spirit

IMG_5075.jpg
Portrait of an Angel in Coffee – can you see the wings?

Birthdays always make me a little uncomfortable.  I feel awkward with all the attention.  Wishing on the candles always feels … odd.   I try to be gracious and go with the flow.  But secretly I hope everyone will just forget.

This year my birthday arrived while I was in Guatemala traveling with a group of kind and intelligent persons with Mexi-Mayan Travel.  Including my mother, who insisted we make a surprise stop at a bakery for cake, while on the way to our destination in the Guatemala forest, Takalik.

IMG_4497.JPG

Takalik Maya Lodge is near the ruins of Takalik.  An old coffee plantation turned lodge.  Tucked on a steep hillside our group would have struggled to make the hike up the hill to the restaurant, so the staff generously brought coffee down to the porch for my birthday celebration.

IMG_4306.jpg

While waiting for the coffee I slipped off  the porch for some yoga and meditation.

Forest Meditation Here
IMG_4350.jpg
The Path View

Meditating on the energy of the land, I was surprised at its gentle and feminine energy.  The forest, while not quite jungle, was thick and dense.  Yet so generously soft…

Everyone was very patient while I kept running down the hill to finish my yoga poses and meditation.

Then the cake and coffee.

The heavenly earthly coffee, the cake also.   But the comradery was supreme.  Such good will!

It was here that I finally found the solution to my birthday awkwardness.  From the sweetness of the land and my comrades and the generosity of the Guatemalan people hauling coffee down the hill.

I blew out my candles and wished for myself to be generous of spirit.  Done.  Happy Birthday to me.

IMG_4332.JPG

Later I talked my loving, wise mom into reading my coffee grounds.  Thick coffee sludge in my cup.  She hunched over the cup and saw everything that she knew I wanted…

Do you have a theme for the year?

For the past several new years  I’ve done a contemplative internal unveiling  with intention to settle on a single word as a theme for my year.

I ask myself –

What would I like more of?  How can I be of use to loved ones, the world, and myself?  What will bring me closer to my beauty and truth?  What are my secreted dreams?

I light a candle, perhaps burn some incense, definitely anoint with some scents (today – jasmine concrete and frankincense), meditate,  beseech my higher self, and read faerie cards.

IMG_0193.jpg

And then I listen to that feeling in my gut when I consider the options.  What gives me that certain feeling –  a spark of excitement.

“Action” Is My Theme!

The above little altar montage is my manifestation inspiration.

What are your plans for the year dear, Reader?  I’d love to hear them! What sort of ‘ceremonies’ do you practice?

I wish you all your dreams come true!

Full Faerie Feelin’ – Fae on Friday

To fill with pleasure
So it overflows the soul
Is gratitude shared.

To fill with pleasure
So it overflows the soul
Is gratitude shared.
~ Me

In this neck of the verdant wood, Chicago – the midwest region of the USA, we are celebrating Thanksgiving and tucking ourselves inside for a longish cold snap.

But like many all over the world, we are steeped in grief and confusion over recent events and the condition of the world suffering under the blows of psychopathology.  Wondering what is to be done.

What is to be done?  Work magic.  Be a mystic.  Meditate this.

Let yourself fill with all the beauty and love and golden light you can.  This.  Fill until it lights your heart, spills out of you into your aura, till it touches everyone one you know, and those you don’t, expanding out to fill rooms and buildings and cities and wilds and countries…  That…

And the fullness and expansion, this, is to express gratitude.   And gratitude is not a tame feeling of some external “should” foisted on you by a chiding authority.  It is raw, soul-awakening, hugely powerful, expansive beauty.  And though it may sound trite, it’s  what the world needs.

So indulge, don’t let yourself be robbed by fear and guilt…

For me beautiful sights and colors and loved ones and art and perfume and yoga, and circus and music and and and…  They feed my soul.  What fills yours, dear Reader?  I urge you to find and indulge.  Feed yourself this soul light and thus the world.

What I Did On My Social Media Vacation

IMG_3163

Some moons ago I took a couple weeks off of the blog and social media which turned into many moons more than two weeks worth.  Now even this update blog is many moons overdue.  Oops.  I have missed writing and dreaming stuff up here and interacting on the FB.  But I did get lots done.  Here is some of it.

I Opened an Etsy Store Called Lost Antiquities Found

No, it is not yet my perfume store…  Sigh.  But more on that in a sec.

This is a venture to find homes for many of the delightful plunders my parents curated during their extensive travels from the 1960’s though present.  I hope you have fun looking at these treasures.

You can check out the store by clicking here.  And read more about it by clicking here on this site.  And keep checking back cause I am still adding to it.

Here is a pic of my parents.  It’s one of their favorites.  And mine too.

I am getting closer with the Verdant Faerie Scent Salon!

Totally cracked myself up staying up super late one night making a big shopping list of all the oils and absolutes I need to produce a bunch of bottles of magic juice.  That which made me laugh so hard I nearly peed myself was the outrageous cost!  Ah well, keeping the faith.  It will manifest.

Introducing Soon –

Magical Reads and ListensIMG_3505

The Living World of the Faery by Faery Faith teacher RJ Stewart, took me on a journey to the otherworld and I came back with two faerie beings.  One of them sprinkled blue glittery sparkles on the eyelids of my yoga student while I was doing energy healing on her!

Anam Cara means soul friend in Gaelic.  This book is a thing of shimmery poetics and earthly beauty.  Do read it.

Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm.  Just started…

Faerie Magazine  mmmmmmm.

I have been hot on the Celtic Druid Ancient History trail and found synchronicity in some lovely podcasts;

I Realized Something About Gratitude

When we feel gratitude we raise our own vibrations AND the vibrations of others.  And experiencing the feeling of gratitude is allowing yourself to feel the pleasure of those good things we are grateful for.  To feel pleasure is the expression of gratitude.  It is a celebration of the abundant beauty of life.

In the past I have sometimes wanted to be grateful or even felt I should be grateful, which externalized gratitude.  It put gratitude outside of me and almost made me feel guilty for not feeling gratitude without telling myself I should be feeling grateful!

But allowing myself to feel the pleasure, to let it well inside of me, is what I believe it’s really about.

Try it and tell me what you think.  Get still, take some nice deep breaths, close your eyes, and pick a single thing in your life that delights your being, hold it in your heart,  and let yourself feel into it.  Let the feeling grow and expand.  Revel in it, go orgasmic crazy with pleasure.  Take another deep breath and hold on to the feeling.  Open your eyes.  Is the world a little more sparkly and vivid?  Are you ready to go about your day a little lighter?

peace y’all

Hello Dear Reader!

Just wanted to say I am taking short pause to take care of some things, create and study perfumes, and practice contemplation.  Peace and love to all!

Fae on Friday – The Oakman

This week I have been busy in the perfumery creating a green inspired perfume. A classic all-natural Fougere, with a warm, earthy base. An herbaceous blend on a bed of oak moss and benzoin.

Or in this case – The Oak Woman

IMG_2663_2

IMG_2659

My heart achesand a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
’Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness,—
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
In some melodious plot
Of beechen green, and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease.

-John Keats

Well that’s pretty intense, Mr. Keats.  But on this full moon I do have a touch of sadness.  The closing of summer sadness.  And the oak brings such comfort…  Just creeping around in them, meditating with my back resting on the tree.  Walking in a mature oak forest.

Fae on Friday – Yellow Bliss

Summertime, and the living is easy.

Singing Soul in Yellow and Green

FullSizeRender-3 copy 2

Yellow singing faerie joy
Light inside and bright employ
The summer’s song all in your heart
Makes loss or sadness fast depart.
~ Doreen Stelton

There is such a feeling by late August.  Creamy and bright.  The excitement of the spring blooms have mellowed and the verdancy of summer is familiarly sweet.  Cicadas, crickets, and birds serenade.  Even when feeling the slightest bit low, just lie on the beautiful earth and listen and breathe.  Soak it up, radiate it out.  Summertime, and the living is easy.

It gets me every time regardless

(Ahem, this canary looks a little pissed off, but birds just look that way a lot, I think)

Velvet and Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery has the perfect summer perfume for you – Songbird.  This beautiful natural perfume was composed to the sound of birds singing outside the perfumer Laurie Stern’s window.  It’s a complex blending of multiple lush, exotic florals and sweet spices with a soft vanilla finish.
